No Touch Tuesday - "Finchy Film Version"

I don’t limit my creativity to just photography. I also enjoy working with video as well. My Nikon D3300 captures video in full HD 1080 60fps resolution, and the quality is spectacular. The problems I run into with video are the same that I have with photos…lighting and tone. Luckily I have an awesome program I can turn to for video editing…Wondershare’s Filmora.

I’m still learning all of the many features this program has, and though it has an Easy Mode, I always use the Full Feature Mode. This mode gives you complete control over your project. Not only can you make adjustments to brightness, exposure, saturation, etc. like you would with Photoshop, you can also overlay multiple video and audio clips or add text layers, transitions and overlays. When your project is complete, you can export it in multiple formats or upload it straight to social media.

BEFORE

For this project, I used two separate video clips…one of the finches at the feeder and another of a tree swaying in the breeze. The tree video had a lot of birds singing and chirping in the background, and that’s all I really wanted from the clip. I added that video to the project first then used the Audio Detach tool to strip out the audio portion into its own track. When that was complete, I deleted the video track but kept the audio.

Next, I added the clip of the finches at the feeder, but I didn’t like how bright and overexposed it appeared. Using the Advanced Editing mode, I increased the shadows and decreased the brightness and contrast. Just a couple of small touches, but they made a big difference! Before finishing the project, I maxed out the volume on the audio track. And there you have it! A Fauxto Finish on film of finches feeding! 😜
