Selinza Mitchell, licensed to practice nursing in 1982, has enjoyed a successful career, clinically specializing in Clinical Oncology and Medical Surgical Nursing. She is no stranger to health care as she spent eight hours a day five days a week for ten years as a volunteer, prior to entering nursing school at a major 500 bed hospital, where she found her purpose.

Ms. Mitchell, a middle child, who has always dreamt of being needed found what makes her heart beat, meeting the needs of others, from the birth of a new life, to the grace and dignity by which end of life care is given. Understanding the difference between “…don’t just do it but do it right.” Selinza found her passion, “You don’t just take care of the problem, you take care of the person.”

1990 she began participating in Service Excellence Courses for Customer Service Certification. The philosophy statement which says, ‘treat people the way you want to be treated’ takes a back seat to Ms. Mitchell’s motto “Treat others the way you want your loved ones treated.”

She is no avoider of the roller-coaster of emotional and challenging situations encountered over her 24 years as a clinical Oncology floor nurse for (what is now named) Baylor – All Saints Episcopal Hospital and The Tarrant County Hospital Districts ‘John Peter Smith Hospital.’ She understands the professional challenges and making a difference in the lives of individuals daily, as well as the art of embracing cultural diversity’s, the study of social science helped to determine and assess how to provide the best care for the total patient experience.

After becoming Chemotherapy certified and working at the Moncrief Radiation Center, she became an ever-greater asset to the care of her patients, understanding and participate in the whole process and the total care of the Oncology patient and the caregiver, which she enjoyed for just more than two decades.

Ms. Mitchell developed a reputation as a leader and champion in problem solving as Nurse –Liaison between licensed healthcare professionals, UAP (unlicensed assistance personnel), Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Patients for Webb Kohler Pharmacy-DME Companies.

She accepted a faculty position at a North Texas School of Nursing in 2002, educating nursing students in such courses as:  The History of Health Care Nursing, The Nursing Process and Critical Thinking, Law as it relates to Nursing (Healthcare), Professional Ethics in Nursing, Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Life Span Growth and Development, Communication and Professional Customer Care teaching specific to the health care provider, the internal and the external customer, as well as Clinical Nursing Skills.

In 2004 Ms. Mitchell began lecturing nationally, as a professional speaker and has quickly become one of the most sought-after National Speakers presenting on average 125 Keynote addresses and lectures a year, providing critical information to attendees of Symposiums, Conferences, Retreats, Seminars, Trainings, Corporate events, and Commencement addresses.

Selinza has been referred to as “The Conversationalist” and “The Story Teller,” She possessing an ability to hold the attendees attention in the palm of her hand. Ms. Mitchell observes that the day-to-day intensity, long hours and constant demands on health care professionals / workers – over time can reveal what may be perceived as a lack of dedication, a decrease in passion and an absence of the famous four-letter word CARE.

“We are health care professionals by choice, that is …we volunteered to become a part of the healthcare team.” Ms. Mitchell believes that our fingerprints are left on every life that we touch and the lives of their family, friends and associates. The impressions we make daily are everlasting, permanent, unforgettable and undying.
