Biography


You will be laughing hysterically before you know it as Brenda tells her stories in a conversational manner. A colorectal cancer survivor at age 39, wife, and mother of two children under 6, she realized humor would be the key to dealing with the challenges of life. The audience relates to Brenda as she shows how we can laugh in the face of some tough times. Brenda is known for her ability to talk about taboo subjects with honesty and humor. You don’t want to miss it!

This funny, highly energetic woman was voted Twin Cities Funniest Person by Acme Comedy Club in Minnesota, Newsmaker of the year by the Women’s Press, and has received the Golden “Mic” (Mike) award from the American Cancer Society.

Brenda has been educating people using humor for her entire speaking career, and has been awarded the Advocacy to Action Award by Get Your Rear in Gear organization (GYRIG). Brenda is the past‐President of the National Speaker’s Association, Minnesota Chapter, along with former President of the United Ostomy Association’s, Minneapolis chapter, and is national patient advocate for a variety of organizations. She is also active in the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH).

With a background in business, Brenda knows what it’s like to worry about the bottom line in business and home life. As a wife, mother, international speaker and author of five books, Brenda is filled with stories that resonate with her audiences. She brings a message that will include encouragement, appreciation of diversity, and hope amidst adversity all combined with a good inside view from the funny side of life.

You can tell from the titles of her book, she looks at life with humor. Her first book, If the Battle is Over, Why am I Still in Uniform? was followed quickly by I’d Like to Buy a Bowel Please! Next came great stories of humor and inspiration that are all medically related in a book called, Bedpan Banter. It’s in the Bag and Under the Covers, came next, and her most recent book, Your Glasses are on Top of Your Head: Tales of Life, Longevity and Laughter,  takes a hopeful and adventurous look at life as we grow older. Her books and stories make people laugh out loud!

Brenda is a down to earth story teller, is known for her honest discussions, and her ability to make audiences burst out laughing. They leave enlightened, educated and entertained… and sometimes their cheeks hurt.

Humor and Healing from the Patient's/Caregiver's Perspective

This talk is available for 1 CEU Credit. This presentation will be engaging, funny, and heartwarming, giving the healthcare professional an opportunity to experience the perspective of a patient in a healthcare setting. This keynote is based on Brenda's award winning book, Your Glasses Are on Top of Your Head. It looks at our lives through a lens of humor. Brenda brings stories from life that are relatable to every generation.
