I have a short list of animals and birds I haven’t had the chance to photograph out in the wild – my Dream Shots. It’s a great feeling when I finally get a photo of those elusive creatures and mark it off my list. But something happened this weekend that made me rethink this approach.

At the beginning of the month, I’d asked for people to vote on which of the pictures in my portfolio would look best on a gallery wall. The responses to both the contest and the giveaway have been overwhelmingly kind and eye-opening as to what others see in my photos.

I redesigned my website to make it easier to purchase prints and products featuring my photos. Getting paid to take nature pictures full-time is my ultimate dream – I have a plan to make that happen, and it all starts with what YOU like best.

I added a lot of new photos to my nature gallery in 2022, many of them taken in my own backyard. Looking back through all those snapshots of time spent in nature is a rewarding exercise in gratitude. But it is also an intensely fun way to geek out on the computer.

Last year on a beautiful October afternoon I looked out the window and spotted a small speck of blue among the colorful leaves. I watched for a bit before realizing it was pretty little Bluebird peacefully perched on a branch. I quickly grabbed my camera and snuck outside as quietly as I could.

I walked over to the last two drooping sunflowers, smaller than the others that had grown to 9 feet. I had to bend over to see into the shorter flowers’ faces. Just as I began to curse the cucumber beetles, I realized I was not alone…the sunflower had a visitor, one that looked as if it had come from another galaxy.
